YOUR MOVE TO SPAIN

starts here

Hi! Soy Meg James, a wife, mom and an American expat living in Madrid, Spain. Our family always dreamed of living abroad but we didn’t have a job, a government contract, the military or family ancestry to help us achieve this dream. Instead, we needed to find a way on our own to move to Spain and we did so through quitting my husband’s job, renting out our house and going on a one year gap year.

This gap year has since turned into year two of living in Spain, which caused us to set up three U.S. LLCs to run as freelancers from Spain, learn the Spanish language and settle into a longer-term Spanish apartment. If you’re here because you have the same dream, let me help you make the move to Spain, with mom-approved tips to make sure your whole American family transitions with ease.

Quick Advice for Busy Moms Considering
a Move to Spain

Our Family’s Thoughts on Moving fromthe U.S. to Spain:

We look back on our move to Madrid, Spain and think about all of the little (and big!) things that went wrong that were SO preventable. That’s why I created this course, to help you and your family have a smoother transition for your big move to Spain. There were so many highs and lows, things we did well and things we wish we did differently. For each of us, these are some areas of our move that intimidated us at first and some that still feel tough.

“Looking back, I would have hired a tax advisor in Spain before our move. We received so many different answers about taxes in Spain from a Google search, and it just wasn’t enough to make factual decisions. You definitely need to hire a tax lawyer in Spain before you choose your visa type/make the move. We’re so glad we recently did!"

- Logan (Dad)

“I was so worried about making new friends and not connecting with Spanish friends. I thought as the American kid, I wouldn’t fit in. But I learned that not to be true at all!"

- Landon (oldest son, age 12)

“For me, I wish I had learned more Spanish in advance of our move to Spain. If I had known that online programs like Expanish existed to help me learn Castellano sooner, I would have gotten a leg up on learning Spanish before the move. It’s so hard to find the time for language learning as an adult when you’re busy with the move!"

- Meg (Mom)

“I left behind a lot of my items in the U.S. when we rented our home to move to Spain. When my mom found an affordable company to send some of my favorite items to us, I was so thrilled to get them back!”

- Griffin (youngest son, age 9)
